Eela Laitinen (1991) est une artiste finlandaise installée depuis dix ans en Occitanie. Elle développe une pratique ancrée dans une approche de cartographie sensible, explorant les connexions profondes entre le territoire, la nature, et la biodiversité. Inspirée par les paysages et la faune et la flore des Pyrénées et de la Méditerranée, ses œuvres mêlent art contemporain et sensibilité écologique, évoquant des espaces où la réalité géographique dialogue avec l’imaginaire.
Ses créations, souvent empreintes de mystère, évoquent des paysages enchanteurs, peuplés de torrents tumultueux et de forêts où mythes et créatures oniriques prennent vie.

Le travail d'Eela Laitinen, à la croisée de l'art et de la recherche, s’articule autour de la cartographie non traditionnelle, où elle capture les aspects sensoriels et émotionnels des lieux. Par la peinture, le dessin, la photographie et l’installation, Eela cartographie non seulement ce qui est visible, mais aussi ce qui est ressenti, offrant une lecture subjective et poétique des paysages. En adoptant cette démarche, elle invite à une redécouverte du territoire, en questionnant les notions de frontières. Dans ses peintures à l'encre de Chine, Eela Laitinen explore les frontières entre le contrôle et le lâcher-prise, un espace où la spontanéité du geste côtoie la précision d’une forme délibérée.
Elle s'inspire de l'esthétique japonaise et de la peinture traditionnelle « sumi-e » : technique japonaise à l’encre, héritée de la calligraphie zen qui privilégie l’expressivité du geste et la beauté dans la simplicité.
Ses œuvres se présentent comme des instants suspendus, des moments de silence entre l’artiste et la matière. Le mouvement de l’encre, aussi fluide qu’imprévisible, rappelle à la fois les phénomènes naturels – tels que les flux d'eau ou le mouvement du vent – et des états intérieurs profonds, évoquant une sorte de paysage mental.
Le contraste entre les noirs profonds et les zones de vide évoque la philosophie japonaise du « ma », l’importance de l’espace négatif comme partie intégrante de la composition.

Très impliquée dans les dynamiques culturelles locales, Eela anime des ateliers participatifs et des performances où les habitants sont invités à contribuer à la création collective, tissant ainsi un réseau d'expériences sensibles. Cette dimension relationnelle de son art met en lumière la richesse des histoires personnelles et leur interconnexion avec le territoire, offrant une exploration renouvelée de notre lien avec la nature.

Eela Laitinen (1991) is a Finnish artist based in Occitanie region en France. Her work is rooted in a sensitive mapping approach, exploring the deep connections between territory, nature and biodiversity. Inspired by the landscapes and flora and fauna of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, her works combine contemporary art and ecological questions, evoking spaces where geographical reality enters into dialogue with the imaginary.
Her works, often imbued with mystery, evoke enchanted landscapes, populated by tumultuous torrents and forests where myths and dreamlike creatures come to life.

Eela Laitinen's work, at the crossroads of art and research, revolves around non-traditional cartography, in which she captures the sensory and emotional aspects of places. Through painting, drawing, photography and installation, Eela maps not only what is visible, but also what is felt, offering a subjective and poetic reading of landscapes. By adopting this approach, she invites us to rediscover the territory, questioning notions of borders. She explores the profound interconnections between nature, biodiversity and the human experience of landscape, asserting a radically subjective and sensory approach to cartography.

In her ink paintings, Eela Laitinen explores the boundaries between control and letting go, a space where the spontaneity of gesture rubs plays with the precision of deliberate form. She draws her inspiration from Japanese aesthetics and traditional « sumi-e » painting: a Japanese ink technique inherited from Zen calligraphy that emphasises expressive gesture and beauty in simplicity. Her works are like suspended moments, moments of silence between the artist and the material. The movement of the ink, as fluid as it is unpredictable, recalls both natural phenomena - such as the flow of water or the movement of the wind - and deep inner states, evoking a kind of mental landscape. The contrast between the deep blacks and the empty areas evokes the Japanese philosophy of « ma », the importance of negative space as an integral part of the composition.

Very involved in local cultural initiatives, Eela leads participatory workshops and performances in which local people are invited to contribute to the collective creation, weaving together a network of sensitive experiences. This relational dimension of her art highlights the richness of personal histories and their interconnection with the territory, offering a renewed exploration of our link with nature.
